Why have we had more power outages this summer than normal?

If you are a Pacific Power customer you have no doubt noticed the increase in power outages this summer. This is caused in part by additional safety precautions taken by Pacific Power to mitigate the risk of wildfires.  These settings result in lines being de-energized more rapidly when there is a fault, which is commonly caused by animals, birds, or airborne debris coming into contact with their equipment. When these settings are in place, there is an increased potential for outages. Moreover, customers may experience longer-than-typical outages as field crews work to patrol the lines before restoring power. 

It is likely these new safety protocols are here to stay!  Purchasing a home standby generator will keep your lights on, AC blasting, refrigerator and freezer working through any outages caused by these new enhanced safety settings.
